Don’t talk to me.

Today in my Weather and Climate class (which i’m having to take because 5 years ago I failed my biology class due to the distractions of Nolan Smock and Eric Kopp at JCC), we learned about hurricanes.  Woop dee doo.

I wasn’t really all that interested until my teacher announces that we’re going to watch a video on Katrina and how, exactly, it had such a devastating effect on New Orleans.  The video was pretty detailed…actually it was really detailed.  The video showed several images of peoples bodies floating face down in the water.  1,300 people died this way.  I guess you could say that I’ve never really understood exactly what happened or to what extent it happened.  It was a pretty moving video that lasted about 50 minutes.

Anyway, this is beside the point.

After this moving video, I started my walk back to the art building with the girl who sat directly in front of me during Weather and Climate.  While walking back, I told  her about how I had visited New Orleans this summer and had seen how bad it STILL is and how incredibly poor the people are in the downtown area.  I told her that I had driven through neighborhoods of people who were still living in the low lying areas that were almost completely destroyed because they still have nowhere to go.  I also told her that there are STILL houses with x’s spray painted on the front to be bulldozed.

THIS *&%^* HAD THE NERVE TO SAY “Why don’t they just bulldoze their own houses?”  at which point, I was completely dumbfounded at the utter IGNORANCE of the question…..i think my jaw actually hit the ground and I may have begun drooling or something at her stupidity.  But I kindly and simply stated “Well, my guess would be that they don’t have enough money to bulldoze their HOUSE!”  AND THEN THIS #$%^& SAID “Those people should just get jobs like everybody else so they can afford to bulldoze their house.  Our government has given them enough money already.”

I grew up in Johnston County and visit there often…but I can say that it has been years since I have spoken to someone that ignorant.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

rant. end.
